Ha fallecido en las últimas horas, y tal como ha hecho oficial a través de las redes sociales su familia, el contrabajista y saxofonista alto George Mraz. Nacido en el protectorado de Bohemia y Moravia, lugar conocido ahora como República Checa, en septiembre de 1944, y más concretamente en la localidad de Pisek, Mraz está considerado como uno de los contrabajistas más prestigiosos del jazz europeo.
Durante bastante tiempo fue miembro del grupo del pianista canadiense Oscar Peterson y trabajó intensamente con otros grandes músicos de jazz como por ejemplo Pepper Adams, Stan Getz, Michel Petrucciani, Stephane Grappelli, Tommy Flanagan, Chet Baker, Joe Henderson, John Abercrombie o John Scofield, entre otros.
En la década de los 70 brilló como miembro de formaciones como New York Jazz Quartet y la The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra. También participó con Joe Lovano, Hank Jones y Paul Motian en discos como Im all for you.
